Pack 93 Summer Hike at Wilder Ranch--Saturday, July 20th

Could it really be July already?  How could summer be going by so fast?

Before summer completely slips by, we thought it would be fun to get our scouts and families together for a hike at beautiful Wilder Ranch State Park, just north of Santa Cruz. Wilder Ranch is one of the hikes in the Monterey Bay Trekkers series, so scouts who participate will earn the patch for this hike.

The trek begins at the historic ranch house and dairy, then follows the coast for a two mile easy hike. Part of the trail follows high cliffs, so parents must walk with their children. A public tour of the farm house and some of the ranch buildings and facilities, which date back to the late 1800's is available at 1:00 pm, so that is an option for those who want to take advantage of the opportunity.  We will plan to meet at 10:30 in the parking lot at the visitors center to allow enough time for the hike and a break for lunch before the tour.

More info regarding the park can be found at:  http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=549

Please be aware there is a $10 per car entry fee to the state park so some of you may want to carpool.  We also recommend you all bring lunch since we will be there from 10:30 am to about 2:30 pm (if you choose to go on the tour).  We'll take a break to have lunch after the hike and before the tour.

Please sign up on the attendance spreadsheet for the hike if you plan to participate so we know how many hikers to expect.  For those who will participate, be sure to bring water, sunscreen and a lunch/snacks.

We look forward to seeing many of you on Saturday, July 20th at 10:30 am in the parking lot at the visitors center in the park.  The location can be found at:

We saved the best for last! Memorial Weekend Family Camp

Calling all campers!

Memorial Weekend Family camp is finally here! This year we will be camping in Pinnacles National Monument and will be exploring the trails and caves on the East Pinnacles side. Please note: you cannot access this through King City, you have to go around the Hollister side.

We will be arriving Friday afternoon and staying until Sunday morning.

Preliminary Details:

Date: Friday and Saturday May 24th and 25th, leaving Sunday morning. You are welcome to come for one or two nights. Flat rate per person, so come when you can.

Food: We provide all the food and cook as a team. Each family is assigned to help prepare one meal. You will be paired with someone who has done this before :)

Cost: $20 per Scout and $30 for everyone else (5 yrs and under free). Includes camping and food, regardless of when you arrive. (Yes, that's a great deal!). So the longer you stay, the better deal you get. Additional cost: The park entrance fee is $30 per car. (We are charging less this year to reflect our mistletoe sales and we want to off-set the entrance fee).

Who can come: Your whole family is welcome.  Once we have our pack families signed up,  we can offer additional spots to friends if we have room. We have a limited number of spaces, so please sign up asap if you want a spot.

Camping equipment needed: Tent, air mattress, sleeping bags, chairs, plates and eating utensils and your personal items. Don't forget your swim suit, there is a small pool and it can get pretty warm. Headlamps for the caves are also necessary.

We will bring all cooking equipment, we will need propane tanks, so if you have one let us know!

We will send out a more detailed itinerary nearer the time. Please sign up on the attendance sheet and bring a check to our last meeting. If you have trouble signing up, please contact your den leader.

Speaking of which: Our last meeting this scouting year is Monday May 13th 6pm. We will be awarding our cub scouts in a special ceremony. Don't miss it!

See you there, Lucy.
