Al Scott has identified a potential opportunity for the Pack to earn some funds by assisting at the Big Sur marathon on Sunday April 24th. The meeting time is very very early, 3:45 AM. This is much too early for our Scouts, but we'd like to find out if there are any parents that would be willing to do this. If not, that is ok and we will pass on this, but if anyone might be interested we'd like to find out before we respond.

Toro Regional Park Day Camp and Pico Blanco Family Campout
Hi Pack 93 Families,
Summer is right around the corner and we have two fun events during May and June.
Day camp is held at Toro Regional Park June 20th-24th from 9am-3pm. Cub Scouts from around the district attend this day camp, which includes fun cub scout activities during the week with one day at Leguna Seca shooting range for archery and BB guns. To sign up please copy and paste the link below or contact the Cub Scout office. You can mail in the forms, complete online, or visit the Cubs store on Main Street in Salinas. I have been unable to get a cut off date, but do asap if you are interested.

When completing the form, please check the box "Santa Lucia North" June 20-24th $100
Please be aware that some parent participation is required. I will arrange a roster for all the parents of children attending. Each parent is required to help for two shifts 9am-12 or 12-3pm. You can also elect to just do one whole day. I have created an attendance sheet, please let me know if you have already signed up or are planning to.
Family Camp is our annual Memorial Weekend overnight camp in Pico Blanco, Big Sur, which is probably the highlight of our cubs scout year for most of the kids. (May 27th-30th). Please mark your calendars for this fun experience. Perfect for the experienced or first time campers! More information will follow.

For USS Hornet Overnight Participants
All,
This will be the final posting regarding the overnight stay on the USS Hornet in Alameda on Saturday, April 2nd through Sunday, April 3rd. If you are participating, please be at the pier no later than 4:30 pm on Saturday so our group can be ready to board at 5:00 pm. There will be an initial safety briefing, after which we will stow our gear in the berthing areas, and dinner will follow shortly thereafter.
Directions to the Hornet can be found at https://www.uss-hornet.org/explore/contact/driving-directions/ . If you run into problems on the way to Alameda and will be late, please call or text Al Scott at 831-236-7607.
The following additional information is provided to aid in planning:
1. Each group is assigned bunks in the ship’s berthing compartments. It is possible that we may share the compartment with another group. Female guests may choose to sleep in a separate compartment. Please be aware you may experience normal ship noises, such as creaks and groans during the night (you may want to bring ear plugs).
2. The berthing compartments are equipped with canvas covered “racks” with foam mattresses. Each person should bring a pillow, sleeping bag, and extra blanket in cold weather, toiletries, hand towel, flashlight, a jacket, and a warm hat in cold weather. Scouts are encouraged to wear their uniforms.
3. Please do not bring any unnecessary electronic/electric devices including hairdryers; laser pointers; knives; open flame devices including lighters and matches; or food or drink items (with an exception of meals for those with food allergies).
4. A limited number of lockers are available to share in the berthing compartments. Each group can bring several locks to secure their valuables and personal belongings. The Aircraft Carrier Hornet Foundation is NOT responsible for loss of personal items.
5. Overnight gear is not allowed on the ship before 5:00pm and private vehicles are not allowed on the pier. Parking is available across the street and participants are expected to carry sleeping bags and other gear on board at the appointed time. The next day's admission to the ship is included in the overnight package. All gear must be removed from the ship by 1000 on Sunday morning, but you can come back onboard and explore the museum the rest of the day if you want.
6. The Live-Aboard Program is conducted in a fun-spirited, organized manner; falling in, stowing your gear, and following orders are all part of this unique and memorable experience. Wristbands will be issued upon arrival and must be worn at all times while on board the USS Hornet. The wristband gives you in-out privileges during museum hours on the second day. All participants must participate in an emergency evacuation drill. (MANDATORY)
7. HORNET staff will be onsite and available in case of emergency. After-hour or emergency contact can be made by calling the Security Desk at (510) 521-8448 x 226.

Meeting and Friends of Scouting presentation March 14th
Hello everyone,
Just a reminder our next meeting is Monday night, March 14th.
I want to let you know that there will be a “Friends of Scouting” (“FOS”) presentation for the parents at this meeting.

I want to let you know that there will be a “Friends of Scouting” (“FOS”) presentation for the parents at this meeting.
As you perhaps know, the FOS program is the yearly giving campaign
organized by our Scouting Council, the Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council of the Boy Scouts of
America. The purpose of this campaign is
to generate donations from Scout families which are then used to offer
development programs, maintain camp properties, and provide the necessary support
that goes into running an effective Scouting organization which ultimately
benefits all Scouts in our local council, especially here in the Santa Lucia district.
At the presentation you will be provided a more detailed description of
the FOS program. At its conclusion, you
will be given the opportunity to make a donation to support Scouting programs. I ask that you
take the time now to think about this.
You can also obtain more
information by visiting the council’s website at www.svmbc.org/svmbc/support-scouting/friends-of-scouting.
I am often asked if this money goes back to our Pack, and it does not. All funds that you choose to donate during the FOS campaign go directly to the Council. Donations do indirectly support us as they help maintain Pico Blanco and help with programs like the Day Camp at Toro, so donations are important and valuable, but the Pack does not receive any of these funds.

USS Hornet signup deadline
Hi Pack 93 Families,
Just a quick reminder that if you plan to participate in the USS Hornet overnight on 2-3 April, you need to sign up by this Friday evening (March 11th). A column has been added to the sign-up sheet so you can enter the names of participants--this will be very helpful when we put together the roster that must be submitted to the Hornet Foundation.
Information regarding ordering of dog tags has also been added to the sign-up sheet. If you would like to pre-order dog tags so they will be available during our stay, please provide the requested information.

The Forest Nisene Marks Hike Saturday March 12th.
Hi All,
We have a Hike on Saturday March 12th.
The location is “The Forest Nisene
Marks.” This is one of our special patch hikes.
The cost is 8.00 per car.
The address is 591-629 Aptos Creek
Fire Rd, Aptos, CA 95003

If you want to car pool, we could
meet at Nob Hill in Salinas. Let’s say 9:30
AM to leave for arrival at the park about 10:30 am.
If you wish to drive to the park, please
meet us at the ranger station at 10:30 AM in the park.
We will start
the hike at 10:30 from the George's
picnic area.
This hike may
not be suitable for younger kids as it's a 2-3 hour hike, unless we decide to do
a shorter loop. This hike is recommended for 1st grade up.
Boys can wear their shirt
t-shirts.
Bring a lunch, water, and warm
clothes we will be hiking in the red woods. No caves this time, but you should
still wear good hiking shoes.
