Meeting and Friends of Scouting presentation March 14th

Hello everyone,
Just a reminder our next meeting is Monday night, March 14th.

I want to let you know that there will be a “Friends of Scouting” (“FOS”) presentation for the parents at this meeting.

As you perhaps know, the FOS program is the yearly giving campaign organized by our Scouting Council, the Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council of the Boy Scouts of America.  The purpose of this campaign is to generate donations from Scout families which are then used to offer development programs, maintain camp properties, and provide the necessary support that goes into running an effective Scouting organization which ultimately benefits all Scouts in our local council, especially here in the Santa Lucia district.

At the presentation you will be provided a more detailed description of the FOS program.  At its conclusion, you will be given the opportunity to make a donation to support Scouting programs.  I ask that you take the time now to think about this.

You can also obtain more information by visiting the council’s website at www.svmbc.org/svmbc/support-scouting/friends-of-scouting.

I am often asked if this money goes back to our Pack, and it does not.  All funds that you choose to donate during the FOS campaign go directly to the Council.  Donations do indirectly support us as they help maintain Pico Blanco and help with programs like the Day Camp at Toro, so donations are important and valuable, but the Pack does not receive any of these funds.

Thank you for your help and support.

Sincerely,
Steve
Pack Committee Chair

USS Hornet signup deadline

Hi Pack 93 Families,

Just a quick reminder that if you plan to participate in the USS Hornet overnight on 2-3 April, you need to sign up by this Friday evening (March 11th).  A column has been added to the sign-up sheet so you can enter the names of participants--this will be very helpful when we put together the roster that must be submitted to the Hornet Foundation.

Information regarding ordering of dog tags has also been added to the sign-up sheet.  If you would like to pre-order dog tags so they will be available during our stay, please provide the requested information.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to e-mail us at Pack93Toro@gmail.com .

Thanks,

Al

USS Hornet Overnight, April 2nd and 3rd

Hi Scout Families,

As most of you are hopefully aware, our next big event is the overnight stay on the USS Hornet in Alameda on Saturday, April 2nd through Sunday, April 3rd.  We need to provide a final roster of participants to the Hornet no later than 3 weeks prior to our stay, so please sign up on the blog NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, MARCH 11th, if you plan to attend.  Our final roster will include the names of everyone signed up by the 11th.

Cost is $70 per person for the family members.  The Pack will subsidize the Scouts that go for $20 each, so cost for the Scouts will be $50.  We will announce arrangements for payment in the next week or so since full payment for our stay must also be made three weeks prior.

The following link provides a lot of useful information regarding the various activities included in the stay, what to bring and not to bring, etc.:

We need to meet at the pier no later than 4:30 pm.  Boarding begins at 5:00 pm.  There is an initial safety briefing, then we stow our gear in our berthing areas, and dinner follows shortly after.

There is a separate, optional cost, for anyone who would like to order dog tags for the visit.  They range from $6.40 to $10.90 based on whether you purchase one or two dog tags.

If you have any questions please let us know right away.  If you are not sure how to enter your name on the blog, also let us know right away.

We hope you will all be able to join us for this fun event!

fishing on Saturday and Scout sunday on the 7th

Hi All,

The fishing trip is Saturday. I will be at the lake from 7:00 am till 10:00 am. Please go to the blag and sign up on the spread sheet.

If you want to catch fish then you should plan to be there before 9:00. the fish will generally stop biting around 9:00 to 10:00

Catfish can be tricky, I or another experienced adult will handle taking all the fish off the hooks.

Some good suggestions for bait are worms, and PowerBait. I will bring a can of Powerbait, and give some to each boy. The new trout will like the PowerBait, and lures best. If you are not coming until later 9: or after, then worms will work better on the catfish.

Things to bring
  • A plastic bag or old cooler for the fish.
  • Small lure for the fishing line.
  • Food and or snacks for you and your son.
  • Water for drinking
  • Gloves if you think you want to touch the fish without really touching one.
  • Worms, can be purchased at the bait and tackle shop.
  •  a sliding sinker

Scout Sunday is February 7th. IF your scout wants to go for the pancake breakfast there is a 5.00 donation scouts should be in uniform and a pair of blue pants. The service starts at 9:45
